We’ve seen the latest models, and we’re ready to share our favorite bits and pieces By James Corns There are boats, and then there are great boats. Very often, the only difference between the two is the discovery of a standout feature or accessory that delights you to no end. You might not even know what it is about the item that you find so endearing, but that singular feature raises your esteem for the entire boat. We looked for exactly those kinds of qualiies when choosing our favorite features of 2003 - and we’ve come up with quite a few good ones. Each boat was already great in its own right, but the addition of these exceptional features has made the boats truly shine: Sleeping Beauty Crownline 288 BR Hidden Berth
The Crownline 288BR, the company’s biggest bowrider, has a berth hidden inside its port console. This certainly isn’t the first bowrider with a berth, but what we like about the compartment on the 288 BR is that it doesn’t share space with a head. The head has its own compartment built into the helm console on the starboard side. Call us weird, but no matter how clean the head might be, we don’t wan’t to sleep next to it — and with the 288BR, thats not a concern. A compartment light and a portlight offer illumination, and a CO1 detector comes standard, for extra peace of mind. Add it all together and you have one of our favorite bowriders.
We’ve done the research for you! We crawled across arid deserts, trudged through thick jungles, and climbed over towering mountains just to bring you this year’s Boat Buyer’s Guide: Or, at least, we would have, if it had been necessary. Fortunately, it never came to that. We were able to obtain the information we needed via a few hundred hours of research and several thousand cups of coffee. This year’s Boat Buyer’s Guide is bigger and better than ever. We’ve listed the make and model of every boat we could find — including some that you’ve probably never heard of. Heck, we’ve even thrown in a few hovercrafts for good measure.

A bowrider with a berth? Who ever heard of such a silly (and downright wonderful) thing? The people at Crownline Boats, for one.
